Fonte Gaia in Piazza del Campo Siena

In the renowned Piazza del Campo, within the core of Siena town, there is a sculpture masterpiece which has to been absolute admired: the Fonte Gaia (fountain of the joy) was built by sienese people in the second half of the XIV century.

The original part of the fountain was replaced in the second decade of the XV century by some beautiful Jacopo della Quercia’s figures. Born in Siena at the end of the XIV century, Jacopo della Quercia was one of the most important sculptors between the late gothic and the early Renaissance.

What you have to know is the current fountain, which is located in the square, is a 19th century copy of Jacopo della Quercia’s one. Where is the XV century fountain?
