A guided tour at no additional cost

A guided walking tour through the elegant historic centre of Florence enables you to discover a town that is unique in the world, a UNESCO heritage site and the cradle of the famous cultural phenomenon known as the Renaissance. In fact, thanks to the many art works even visible in the streets and squares, the city can in all respects be considered an admirable open-air museum.

Our guided walking tour of Florence starts from Piazza Santa Maria Novella, one of the best-known spaces in the city which is where the Santa Maria Novella church with its façade marks a first example to admire of Renaissance architecture; thanks to its elegant marble facing, designed by Leon Battista Alberti – one of the greatest theorists of the fifteenth century architecture –, Santa Maria Novella church welcomes you to Florence.

The guided tour continues towards Piazza del Duomo

From Santa Maria Novella square we move towards the town centre; we walk through some of the medieval streets of Florence and discover some important traditions and habits of the city, such as that of the wine holes …

Walking along Via dei Cerretani, we arrive in front of the splendid Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, one of the most majestic churches in the world which, thanks also to its imposing dome, is among the monuments of Florence that you cannot miss.

From the religious to the political core of Florence

After discovering some of the curiosities about the ‘Duomo’, our walking tour of Florence moves on towards Via dei Calzaiuoli which is in this day the elegant Florentine shopping street; stopping in front of the Orsanmichele complex, we learn about the singular history of this church that originally worked as a barn

Reaching Piazza della Signoria, the ancient political core of Florence, you can admire the bulk of Palazzo Vecchio, the thirteenth town hall of Florence. This is an authentically suggestive space thanks to some Renaissance sculpture masterpieces that here are in full view, such as the Michelangelo’s David, the Rape of the Sabine Women by Giambologna, the Perseus by Benvenuto Cellini.

Narrating the historical events that took place here, we retrace the events of the two best known political parties in the history of Italy: the Guelphs and the Ghibellines. In the footsteps of the great artists and great political strategists, we will discover the stories of Lorenzo the Magnificent, Leo the tenth and Girolamo Savonarola …

The visit to Ponte Vecchio

Continuing along with the scenic Uffizi Gallery, we briefly retrace the events of the figures represented in the museum’s colonnade and that have made great the history of the Tuscany region.

Then, we visit one of the Florentine icons: Ponte Vecchio. The bridge is the oldest one in the town and it’s characterized by a truly picturesque aspect and; but, what mainly makes the bridge to famous is the series of the ancient goldsmith shops that have been surmounting its structure since the sixteenth century.

From Ponte Vecchio towards Santa Croce

Thanks also to the view that from here it’s possible to have towards the other bridges of the city, staying on Ponte Vecchio allows you to take photos that will become beautiful postcards.

The last stop of our guided tour of Florence Is Piazza Santa Croce; if you visit Florence you cannot go away without having seen this symbolic place of the city which, in the course of history, has seen the passage of well-known personalities: from Dante Alghieri to Giuliano de ‘Medici, up to Galileo Galilei. The vicissitudes of all these great personalities of history – as well as those of other illustrious names such as Ugo Foscolo and Niccolò Machiavelli –, can be uncovered by a tour of the Basilica of Santa Croce and its famous tombs.

In Piazza Santa Croce, that is therefore one of the most important squares in Florence – also known for being the scenery of the renowned tradition of the Calcio Fiorentino (the Florentine historical football) –, is where we conclude the tour of Florence, an itinerary that enables you to get to know the places, the monuments and the figures for which Florence is so known and so loved in the world.

However, this tour can also be booked in combination with the other tours and hiking routes available on Florence and Siena which can be consulted in the Menu, or the duration can be customised by including a visit to the inside of the monuments the client wants to see.
